Switzerland has long been one of the world's great tourist destinations.. As of 2006, tourism accounted for an estimated 3.6% of Switzerland's gross domestic product.

Visas

Visas are not required if you hold a passport for the UK, Ireland, the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand or South Africa, whether visiting as a tourist or on business. Citizens of the EU, Norwegians and Icelanders may also enter Switzerland without a visa for a stay up to three months.

Relief

About a hundred of Switzerland's mountain peaks are close to or higher than 4,000 metres (13,000 ft). At 4,634 m (15,203 ft), Monte Rosa is the highest, although the Matterhorn (4,478 m/14,692 ft) is probably the most famous.

Climate

Most of the country has a central European climate, with daytime temperatures around 18° to 28°C in summer and -2° to 7°C in winter.
