Bulgaria is a country with a historical and cultural heritage, and attractive natural landscapes.


Within a relatively small compass, the Bulgarian landscape exhibits striking topographic variety. Open expanses of lowland alternate with broken mountain country, cut by deep river gorges and harbouring upland basins such as that in which Sofia lies.


Bulgaria enjoys a temperate climate with hot, dry summers and cold, wet winters, often with heavy snow. Temperatures average 24°C (75°F) in summer and around 0°C  (32°F) in the winter months.
