  • A number of ancient civilizations, most notably the Thracians, Ancient Greeks, Romans, Slavs, and especially Bulgars, have left their mark on the culture, history and heritage of Bulgaria.
  • The Bulgarian army is the only force in the entire world which has never lost a single flag, despite activily participaing in wars in Europe since the 19th century.
  • Among the most famous Bulgarians, there should be mentioned a Christo Javacheff - known worldwide as Christo - is a Bulgarian artist, one of the greatest avant-garde of our time, artist Vladimir Dimitrov, Symbolist poet Peyo Yavorov, autgor Dimcho Debelyanov, singer Boris Christoff and many others.
  • The inventor of the first electronic computer John Vincent Atanassoff is of Bulgarian origin. Professor John Atanassoff, together with graduate student Clifford Berry, built the world's first electronic digital computer, at Iowa State University, between 1939 and 1942.
  • Football, volleyball, rugby are most popular sports in Bulgaria. Bulgaria also boasts great achievements in a great variety of other sports such as rhythmic gymnastics, wrestling, athletics ect.
  • The first wrestler in the world with 1500 wins and only 2 losses is the Bulgarian Dan Kolov.
  • Owing to the relatively warm climate and diverse geography affording excellent growth-conditions for a variety of vegetables, herbs and fruits, Bulgarian cuisine offers great diversity.
